The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
